HYPOTHESIS: iF YOU HAVE A CONSISTANT WASH AND CONDITIONER REGIMEN & USE PRODUCTS WITH MINERAL OIL AS ONE OF THE LAST STEPS IN STYLING, THE SUFFOCATING OR DRYING POSIBILITIES WILL BE AVOIDED.
Comments on "NATURAL HAIR: EXPERIMENTING WITH MINERAL OIL AND PETROLATUM"
Hey @ africanexport ... Hey @ africanexport I tried to tell utubehaircare that mineral oil is bad for her hair, because if you dont use? sulfate cleanser shampoo then it will clog up her pores, she says water is the one that clogs up the pores and that water is not moisturizing for our hair, but I think she is totally wrong about that water, but she loves mineral oil products!
thanx for this vid. ... thanx for this vid. i just got a fruit based leave-in in the mail and was hyper p**sed to see mineral oil was the 2nd ingredient. surprising considering how much it? cost me. i have dialed my anger down, doing research and watching this video. mineral oil does what it's supposed to do, seal, like any other oil. it just isn't as good as jojoba or the best coconut oil. now that i have calmed down, i'll put it on damp hair and avoid putting it on my scalp.
I use a conditioner ... I use a conditioner with Mineral Oil. After? washing it out, should I be fine since Mineral Oil is so-called "bad?"
i agree....i ... i agree....i haven't used mineral? oil products because others don't :( but i was never a die hard grease fan. i always like oils
Nice??? Nice???
@AFRICANEXPORT: ... @AFRICANEXPORT: THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TELLING PEOPLE for the PAST 2Yrs Now. I'M GLAD SOMEBODY ELSE is Backing ME UP ON THIS. If you wash and Condition your hair weekly like you're suppose to, there's no Problem with Using the Mineral Oil/Petroleum Products. I use Products with those Ingredients; Especially in the Harsh Winter Months. I? WANT THAT BARRIER to Protect my Hair from the Weather. (I'm not worried about my HAIR DRYING OUT. That won't happen.)
Shampoo should ... Shampoo should remove mineral oil. If you don't like mineral oil you can use products that don't contain? it. But a regular cleansing regimen should work just fine. Hope this helps be well
I use? Softee ... I use? Softee Indian Hemp and I love it!!! It has petrolatum and my hair says Thank You!! You have to do what works for you and taking care of the hair is the most important thing. I loved you and all your videos.
I started back ... I started back using mineral oil and petrolum products on my hair and all I can say is WOW....I used natural products for almost 2 years and always had dull hair and hard \hair....I will CONTINUE to use mineral oil and petrolum? based products....The stuff works....Sorry for those who don't agree...use what works...
i like that you are ... i like that you are not afraid to try things that may not be popular in the natural hair community. everyone needs to do what is good for their hair personally. everyone's hair is different! when i was? relaxed i would wrap my hair with baby oil every night. my hair looked so perfect people thought it was a wig and it was growing extremley fast. as a natural, it makes my hair grow and yes i use it on the scalp and it works great for me. it wont clog pores that is truly a myth in my experience.
Hmmmmmm....... ... Hmmmmmm.......watching this space.?
I use products with ... I use products with those in too, and my hair is lovely :) ? Personally I use whatever my hair likes, rather than what I think it SHOULD like.
You say it made ... You say it made your hair feel? different, but was the mineral oil the only ingredient that was different? Or were there a lot of different ingredients of which mineral oil was just one that stood out? Scientist here so yes I am picky about experiments :P
Mineral oil is an easy name to remember and blame, but some of the unpronouncables are worse, and yet never mentioned. What ELSE is in the scalp oil and grease that could be making your hair/scalp yucky?
Always thought this ... Always thought this was true that if they were the last step in styling some of these products could be fine as they would act as a sealant. Before my 'hair journey' some of these products which had petroleum? and mineral were my favourite products. Good that we have you to experiment!
I hear a lot of ppl ... I hear a lot of ppl saying they may use a product with mineral oil/ petrolatum on their hair but not scalp... I tend to have a dry scalp so I try to massage my scalp with a hair product to moisturize and rub it throughout my hair sections. And that's if I use a natural oil vs a product with those lesser quality product. I try to use it in conjuction with a natural product to help it along. You don't? have to use a lot. Jus Sayin :)
I love? you style, ... I love? you style, I love your talk! I loooove you channel!!!! :-D
When I was a kid ... When I was a kid every sunday my mom washed and braided my hair for the school? week and she used that black DAX grease mixed with castor oil. Now it stunk like crazy but my hair was soft and well moisterized. Since I became an adult all I hear is not to use them and I havent but honestly I am considering doing some research. Thanks for your vid!
Thank you for ... Thank you for reminding me I went to the BSS earlier and I forgot to purchase some hair grease LOL. I am just going to use them in the winter time when it gets? chilly (like now) to twist my hair with and I will be testing to see if it keeps my hair moisturized all week.
As for oiling the ... As for oiling the scalp, I do. Usually once right after washing it and so far I've? seen nothing negative from doing it. I have an itchy scalp, but it's not dry or dandruffy. I think it itches when it's growing, either that or its nerves. But I wonder... y were our mothers able to oil our scalps (and press our hair every 2 weeks) when we were kids and most of us had a head full of hair???
Love your approach ... Love your approach to your theory... and I agree with you. I @ first was trying to find all natural hair care products, but later I just started trying products and I've found a couple shampoos and conditioners that I like but that have the cones and sulfates or whatever, but that my hair still seems to respond well too. My hair is growing better now than when I first started? following suggestions from YT.
Yeah I've heard of ... Yeah I've heard of whites conditioning their hair and scalp, it's the whole oiling/greasing the scalp? that I was refering to. Let me know if you have ever heard of this group using pure oil or grease on the scalp as a regular practice. I'm glad you are as intrigued by the question as I am. maybe AE can shed some light. Thanks! :)
I use the Olive Oil ... I use the Olive Oil Moisterizing hair lotion on my daughters natural hair it contains PETROLATUM in it and it works wonders. I don't? use it daily but I do use it on her hair (not scalp) when braiding or twisting.
A lot of curly ... A lot of curly whites like me have been told to massage conditioner into our scalps when we wash (esp if you're just co-washing) -? I am not sure if this is just for cleansing or some kind of oiling equivalent... We also have the sebum/coils problem (although my curls are looser), but, as you say, surely this means you should moisturise the lengths and ends of your hair? Hm. Interesting question :) I hope AE can help clarify! x
Props to? you for ... Props to? you for experimenting :) I tried using some cheaper supermarket non-natural products on my hair recently, and although it was shiny and soft, it got so dry within a few weeks. I hope that the mineral oil and petrolatum help you avoid that - also, obviously everyone's hair is different and responds differently. Let us know how it turns out! Good to see your face x
i have been ... i have been thinking about the whole "war" against mineral oil/ petrolatum. It amazes me how years back, products containing the BIG 2 caused our hair to grow healthy and strong. Mind you those days? were the "don't wash your hair too much" kinda days, and yet we had gorgeous hair. They do work for me and i love having water running over my scalp. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
My stepmom used ... My stepmom used Queen Burgamont and Dixie Peach on my hair and my hair was? long and healthy! She washed it once a month!
I have never oiled ... I have never oiled my scalp and have never had a problem. I wonder if the need to oil the scalp is an old? wives tale (AKA: old school band wagonism). Our hair can be drier than whites because the sebum has trouble going up coils, but our scalps should be getting just as much sebum as a white persons but you never see them oiling their scalp. Do you have any wisdom on this topic? I could be wrong. IDK. Thanks!
See this is why I ... See this is why I love your channel~ You keep it real. You got to find what works for you. Sometimes I wonder if why my hair? and skin are thriving so well now , is it just b/c I am beginning to pay more attention and take better care of it and nothing to do with the products themselves. Stay Blessed~
I love your? long ... I love your? long videos your so inspiring...one of these days i'll have enough courage to do a video response lol
i use products with ... i use products with mineral oil i wash and condition my hair once a week and then i put a leave in conditioner and use like a grease to seal in the moisture and i only have to do that once and if my hair gets a bit dry a few days later i would put a cream type moisturizer on it. I havent really had any problems with? my hair. I have had a bit of breakage from the ends of my hair but i think thats because of the pony tail holder. I look forward to seeing your results
